Fluid structure interaction between a pendulum and focused breaking waves

To study how an extreme wave load on a maritime structure causes structural deformation, experiment is conducted to measure the response of one degree-of-freedom pendulum in focused, breaking wave. The tube that makes up base covers almost entire width tank so three-dimensional effects can be considered small. varies focus location with respect position as well vertical clearance between and mean free surface. Although energy input was same for all experiments, varied greatly small variations initial location, farthest away from causing largest response. A reduced-order model shows behavior when are varied. Even were kept tests, large variability observed, meaning impulse exerted by must have been different. This different literature waves against rigid walls found local pressures show experiments but typically same. experimental data description made available.
